In anticipation of Protomartyr’s 4th record, “Relatives in Descent,” and their first as a signee to Domino Records, a lyric video was in order. But something… different. Inspired by singer Joe Casey’s recent trip to Ireland, as well as archival videos of The Keane Family singers, we fashioned a tavern with an old-world quality (where smoking was allowed), and assembled a motley cast including 78-year-old standup comic, Marty Smith. His performance weaves in and out of translation as creeping camera moves build up to the powerful final mantra: “She’s just trying to reach you.”
